The Obsidian

Melbourne South East · Sloping Block

The Project

A 398 square metre hillside block. The client's brief was direct: dark finishes, moody interiors, nothing off a shelf. Four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a two-car garage fitted onto the footprint, with a full rear yard retained.

The block sits on a slope in an established hillside estate. Fitting the brief onto the footprint while keeping the rear yard usable required careful planning of the floor plate and retaining structure. The client lived in it for several years, achieved one of the highest sale prices recorded for a block under 400 square metres in the area, and came back to commission a larger project with us.

Design Features

Dark Finish Package

The entire interior palette runs dark: cabinetry, stone, tapware and tiles were all selected to hold the moody quality the client specified. Nothing was substituted for convenience.

398sqm, Nothing Compromised

Four bedrooms, three bathrooms, double garage and a full rear yard on 398 square metres. The floor plan was worked through several iterations to hold everything the brief required.

Sold and Returned

The client sold well above what he paid to build it, one of the highest sales for a block under 400 square metres in the area. He came back to commission a larger build with us.
